Emergency update...Someone accused Barry Bonds of Taking Steroids!

Today word leaked about a book implicating Barry Bonds for using steroids during a 5 year period. The book, called Game of Shadows, was written by two guys who work for the San Francisco Chronicle, the newspaper that broke the news of Bonds grand jury testimony a few years ago. The book details Bonds' alleged steroid use, illustrating a really intense regiment of drugs. Bostondirtdogs.com couldn't wait to post three articles, including a poorly photoshopped Bonds as the Incredible Hulk, a poem with a syringe next to it, and finally, a picture of Bonds as a rookie, and one of him now. Head over to ESPN.com, its the top headline. Foxsports, same thing. Let me check SI.com real quick and...of course Bonds is on the front page, because an chapter from the book is part of the new SI.

Let's be reasonable, and honest with ourselves. Chances are that Bonds knowingly took steroids for a period of time in past. That seems to be the truth. But nothing these writers say is going to get him in trouble for it. The media is now going to hype the shit of of this book, the same way it did with Jose Canseco's book. Maybe the sports media in this country has an unwritten pact saying that they have to drum up interest in each other's books. Whether I like Bonds is irrelevant; just as irrelevant as every writer's opinion that you will undoubtedly read in the coming weeks.

Just a few things to consider: How do two writers from a newspaper build a case against Bonds when the government, or FDA, or whoever, can't prove he took anything? Where do these guys get grand jury testimony, as well as specific evidence about the raid on BALCO and other information that isn't public? Finally, how do they put an entire book together, basically a book full of evidence against Bonds, and Bonds still isn't in trouble????

Everyone is about to jump off a bridge with this story, which is causing me to post a second topic for today. Just remember America; save your money! This book isn't going to change anything. Unless Bonds get charged, or admits to something, or tape surfaces implicating him, he isn't going to get in trouble!!! He is going to get away scot-free, probably set some more records, and walk into the Hall of Fame. Just deal with that fact and move on!
